There are collaborations that feel like marketing. Song For The Mute x adidas feels like two brands that actually respect each other's creative process.

The house has been watching this one since their first drop together and the conversation restarts every time something new lands on the counter. RUN02, the latest chapter in the Song For The Mute x Adidas Running series, dropped recently and it stopped us mid pour. Again. That's worth paying attention to.

Song For The Mute was founded in Sydney in 2010 by Lyna Ty and Melvin Tanaya. The collaboration with Adidas began in 2021 and has been building steadily ever since, each drop finding something new to say without losing the visual language that made the previous ones worth looking at.

That kind of consistency across a growing body of work is rarer than it sounds.

Most collaborations find their register early and then repeat it until the audience stops caring. This one keeps moving and the house keeps coming back for more.

What we keep returning to is the coherence of the creative direction. Stephen Mann has been the creative director across the campaign work throughout, working alongside London-based director and photographer duo Ethan & Tom for the Running series.

The result is a visual world that feels genuinely shared between both brands rather than one borrowing the aesthetic of the other. The colour grading sits in that particular territory between archival and contemporary that Song For The Mute has always owned. The lighting is considered whilst the compositions find the in-between moments that most sports campaigns never have the patience to look for.

RUN02 frames running through accumulated habits and repeated returns rather than performance or competition. The campaign follows runners through city streets, apartments and coffee stops. Wet clothes after rain. Pasta after an evening run. The kind of imagery that makes you feel something about movement without ever telling you how to feel about it.

We've ordered another round just thinking about it.

That's a harder brief to execute than it sounds. Both brands seem to understand that and that’s exactly the point. The house will keep watching. We’ve left the lights on.

Shot of the good stuff.
