Under the banner of MaisonMargiela/folders, the house has opened up working documents tied to its upcoming Fall Winter 2026 show in Shanghai, followed by a series of exhibitions across Beijing, Chengdu and Shenzhen. Artisanal. Anonymity. Tabi. Bianchetto. Four foundational codes. Four physical exhibitions. One digital folder holding the thinking behind it.

What makes this interesting isn't that Margiela is revisiting its heritage. Plenty of brands do that. It's that they're choosing to show the process of documenting it. Planning decks. Development materials. The internal mechanics most houses guard tightly.

For a brand historically rooted in anonymity, this move feels iconic.

Margiela built mystique through concealment. White labels. Models without faces. A design language that resisted personality. So to publish internal folders feels less like a publicity stunt and more like a considered evolution. The mystery isn't gone.

There's also something poetic about using Dropbox as the stage instead of a glossy microsite. Just a shared folder. Functional. Almost administrative. And in doing so it turns documentation into part of the narrative.

The exhibitions themselves will of course reinforce the point. Each city holding a different code, but all anchored by the same open folder. For creatives this lands on a deeper level. We spend so much time seeing finished outcomes. Runways. Campaigns. Perfectly lit lookbooks. What rarely gets surfaced is the scaffolding.The version control. The decisions that didn't make it.

Margiela has effectively said, here's the system.
